ACHIEVE client Simon Ainge has won the National League North ‘Player of the Month’ award for February 2017.
Ainge has been converted from a centre-back into a striker by Harrogate Town boss Simon Weaver and he has responded in astonishing fashion, netting 12 goals since Christmas, and recently firing a hat-trick against league leaders AFC Fylde.
This run of form included a brace against Darlington, four goals against Alfreton Town and a hat-trick against league leaders Fylde from January to March 2017 and saw Ainge net 12 goals in just seven appearances. He began his career with Bradford City, where he made 18 first-team appearances after making his debut in October 2006. After loan spells at Halifax Town and Cambridge United, Simon signed for Conference North club Guiseley AFC, where he became the club captain and a real fans’ favourite.
After helping Guiseley to their highest-ever league position, and being a defender that weighed in with several vital goals (seven goals in 2011-12), he attracted the interests of a whole host of clubs and, in November 2012, he joined Conference Premier club Luton Town on loan, before making the move permanent in January 2013 for a £30,000 transfer fee. During the summer of 2013, Simon signed for National League side FC Halifax Town, where he was a regular at centre-back, before moving to Bradford ark Avenue and then onto Harrogate Town, where he has blossomed in a new position as a striker.
Well done, Simon, from everyone at ACHIEVE.
