Steve Arnold is the Shrews hero

ACHIEVE client Steve Arnold was the hero as he saved two spot-kicks during a penalty shootout as Shrewsbury Town defeated Manchester City under-21s in the Football League Trophy.

Goalkeeper Arnold – making his first competitive appearance of the season having signed in the summer from National League club Barrow – played well during the 90 minutes, which saw the hosts lead through striker Lee Angol’s 51st minute opportune strike.

The visitors levelled in injury-time when defender Ryan Haynes conceded a penalty and Nabil Touaizi converted from the spot to take the match to a penalty shootout.

Arnold was the hero as he saved the first two penalties, first from Touaizi, diving down to his right brilliantly to keep it out.

Arnold then saved the second spot-kick, diving full length to deny Adria Bernabe and Charlie Colkett netted the defining penalty to see the Shrews win the shootout 3-1.
